Domain name

Hey guys, i am posting this to see what you guys would think. Would it be better for us to have our own like Prosnipers.com or Prosnipers.net? Of course this would only be possible through donations, but it would give us alot more freedom with our main website, etc. We could even have our own Ad free forums. Who thinks that would be a good idea?

I think there is a way to get rid of ads on this style forum. Maybe I'm confusing myself but I remember seeing something about removing ads. My *141* site only has ads for non-members, don't quite remember how I set that up though...

Ok people, I found out how to remove ads for members. Guests to the site will still see them but once you login *POOF* they are gone. Beta if you would check your PM box I will send you the instructions on how to remove ads for members since only the creator of the site can do that.

I just wanna throw this in, but remember guys if we get a domain name and suddenly donations stop coming in the site WILL go down. No money, no site. As I recall domains are purchased on a yearly (or maybe it's montly) basis, so if pay time comes and we don't have any money, say Bye-Bye to the site. Then we will be left with XFire as means of communication until the site can be put back up.

We might want to consider that when making a decision.

I just checked and www.prosnipers.com is taken (even though nothing comes up when you type it in, it could be locked or something). We could use something like www.pro-snipers.com or even www.prosnipers.us or probably some other variation. Just wanted to let you guys know also, using the .com domain is the most expensive one to buy, simply because it is the most popular version of domain. We could save ourselves a few dollars per month/year whatever by using some other domain extension (like .us for example).

I know that everything is totally dependent upon donations, but something one of my old clans did was to buy their own server box. Doing that allowed them to host whatever games they wanted for free (set aside the cost of the server box). They hosted their website on it, their TeamSpeak/Ventrilo, and about 4 different game servers on the same box, with minimal lag issues and setup problems.

This is just an idea, but I think when they did it the server box cost them about 160-230 dollars (or somewhere thereabouts) which was more efficient than paying for all the separate enitites.

I don't know what going rates are anymore, so this may just be a shot in the dark, but it would allow the admins much more control over the aspects of the website, CoD4 servers, and even a TeamSpeak/Ventilo server if you wanted. As well as image/file hosting/storage.

Hmm....our own server box....sounds like something to consider. That would (over the long run) definitely save the clan some money, plus we could change settings ect whenever we wanted.
